Jewel of the andes

Landing in Quito is a thrill, set high among the snow-capped volcanoes and peaks of the Andes. Once you have caught your breath our guide will whisk you off to the charming boutique hotel, Patio Andaluz. They can recommend the best restaurants – take your pick of native cuisine or Japanese, Peruvian, Middle-eastern, French or Argentine delights.

After a night’s rest our guide will show you the colonial old city (the second oldest in South America), the tranquil plazas, opulent churches laden with gold leaf, the high vantage point of El Panacillo and the vibrant modern city, with friendly and polite Quiteños.

Clay-lick cliff

Just a 45 minute scenic flight takes you into the heart of Ecuador’s Amazon. From the frontier boom town of Coca, you will board a motorized dugout and head down the Napo river. Within minutes the cares of the world are left behind and you are hypnotized by a rich verdant backdrop. The journey continues in a small paddle canoe up a quiet creek, the peace only broken by a heron or Amazonian kingfisher or the rare sight of a pink river dolphin. The canopy opens to reveal an enchanting lake and the Napo Wildlife Centre Lodge on the far bank.

The next few days are spent with naturalist and local native guides exploring the rainforest domain. Be prepared to be amazed at the sight of thousands of parrots and macaws descending to a clay-lick cliff from where they extract minerals for their diet. Walks in the forest will reveal the secrets of tapir and armadillo lairs, canopy towers the abundant colourful birdlife and the odd sloth. Nights are warm and enriched by the ever changing soundscape of frogs and crickets. You will have the opportunity to visit a local indigenous village to learn about their way of life.

Sail the enchanted isles

After a stop back in Quito you take one of the most eagerly anticipated flights, to the other world that is Galápagos. Our crew will soon take you away from the madding crowd to a beautiful yacht Beluga.

On this sixteen passenger vessel you will be sailing the Pacific waters to isolated coves and small islets whose only inhabitants are myriad seabirds and lazy sea lions. Every island is different and has its own fauna from fearless iguanas to comical boobies. You land at least twice a day and there is plenty of opportunity to snorkel with co
