The Trip
head north
Arriving in Mexico City, you’ll be met by our guides who’ll take you to the Habita in the centre of town. Enjoy a day of exploring the city with our guides there is so much to see in this the biggest city in the world with its 20 million inhabitants. The buzz you’ll get from being here in this vibrant energetic metropolis is perhaps the opposite to the feeling of relaxation you will experience later and it is great to get a feel for Mexico from both ends of the spectrum.
From Mexico City you’ll be jetting on to Los Mochis in the north. You’ll be staying at the Posada del Hidalgo in the town of El Fuerte as you await the start of your railroad adventure.
all aboard
Board the train for the world famous Chihuahua to Pacific train trip into the Sierra Madre Mountains. Pass through dozens of tunnels and accross countless bridges with exceptional photo opportunities. Stopping en route you’ll have a chance to hike around some of the rugged desert like countryside before having a good nights sleep at the Posada Barrancas Mirador. Back onboard the next morning you’ll continue the journey to the frontier logging and mining town of Creel.
copper canyon
Descend the rugged switchbacks and into the depths of the Batopilas Canyon passing though the Copper and La Bufa Canyons. Head out on an afternoon walk into town to see the ruins of the Sheppard Hacienda. The next day you’ll be free to explore the town and soak up the history and atmosphere of the area. Laze by the river, take a day hike or visit the Lost Cathedral of Satevo.
return journey
Return to Creel through the switchbacks by road. Enjoy a free afternoon with optional activities including a visit to the nearby hot springs. Spend the night before continuing on to Chichuchua for a free afternoon of exploration of the museums and historical sites. Board your flight back to Mexico City ready for your onward journey home.
