Touch down in brilliant Santiago, a feast for the senses. The capital of Chile wows with colonial grandeur, pristine boulevards and a population of people who are chilled by day, and lively and friendly by night.  Stay at the Orly hotel during your time here. Our guides will help you get under the skin of this charming city. Explore lively barrios, colourful art galleries and a buzzing cafe culture, just the right way to ease you into your South American adventure.

Jet up to San Pedro de Atacama, the charming country village set among some of Chile’s most spectacular scenery, perched 2,500 metres above sea level. Our tours take you right to the heart of its best offerings, staying at the Altiplanico hotel built in local style with a view of volcano Licanabur. Stroll among the mesmerising ambience of sunset over the Valley of the Moon. Enjoy visits to the country’s largest salt flats, spotted pink with flamingos and lipped by grand volcanoes. Explore fields of steaming thermal waters geysers and rocky landscapes.

We next whisk you to Bolivia, boasting some of South America’s most fascinating and untapped secrets. Enter the Eduardo Abarao Reserve, a fine national reserve created to protect flamingos. Explore the Laguna Verde, and the Laguna Colorado – these are natural spectacles adorned with coloured waters from the naturally occurring algae. Put the 30,000 nesting flamingos against that backdrop and you have a photo-opportunity from nirvana. Rove in the wilderness to find high deserts and then bathe in hot springs, or step through the geysers Sol de Manana. Next stop the authentic village of Cuplina, home to the curious San Cristobal silver mine, one of the most productive in South America. Cross the mountains to look at another spectacle, the cemetery of trains. It’s the final stop for old locomotives that have gone to rest, one of the Latin world’s most unusual attractions. Then dust yourself down for more desert adventure at the Salar De Uyuni, a vast landscape of invisible horizons. Check into the Palacio de Sal, a hotel where most of the building fixtures and fittings are made of salt. Take a trip to Incahuasi Island, an eerie landscape that seems to be part of another planet – teeming with cactus plants and volcanic rock. Cross azure lagoons, before you arrive at the desert in Siloli where you can explore the great expanse of the dry landscape.

After spending some time in the silver mining town of Potosi you’ll board a flight and jet up to the highest capital in the world, La Paz. You’ll spend a couple of nights at the Rosario. By day you can explore this mysterious city with our guide, visiting the witchcraft market and learning about its culture and heritage. Cross the altiplano to Lake Titicaca and board a boat to visit the Uros reed islands before arriving on Sun Island and your home of the next few days, Ecolodge la Estancia. You’ll have loads of time to explore these beautiful unspoilt islands, taking walks along the lake before crossing over to the Peruvian side.

Head to Cuzco on the luxurious Andean Explorer train; slowly chugging past lush green scenery whilst enjoying a three-course lunch. The city of Cuzco was the heart and soul of the Incas, is worth a visit in its own right, with cobbled streets, colourful markets, and buzzing nightlife. You can get a taster for the Inca Trail by exploring Cuzco’s nearby ruins, built out of huge monolithic stones that fit perfectly together. Stay in the Costa del Sol, the city’s old monastery and a national monument, still adorned with some of the country’s most exquisite religious art. We then take you to one of the highlights of this magical trip Machu Picchu, the masterpiece of the great Incan empire. Explore the ancient city complete with its own temples, stairways and fountain plazas. Even more impressive is the surrounding landscape of lush mountains and canyons, chosen as the natural landscape to protect this most sacred spot.
