The Trip

mexico cities ancient wonders

You arrive into Mexico city where our guide will be waiting to take you to the luxury modern hotel Habita. During the next couple of days our local guides will show you the real Mexico City, which is a buzzing energetic city with countless things to see and do. For a little time out from the hectic action they will also be taking you off to the ancient archaeological site of Teotihuacan stopping at the Plaza de la Tres en route.

After a couple of days in this chaotic capital you’ll jet off to Flores in Guatemala. Stay at the stunning La Lancha and take a tour of the famous Mayan temple site of Tikal before heading on to Antigua. The charming town whispers with the echoes of colonial grandeur, and its setting alone is enough to wow you. It sits in the lap of three volcanoes, and is one of the best-organised cities in Guatemala.  Narrow alleyways hide quaint terracotta houses, where gardens explode with colourful flowers, and it’s just made for exploring, hunting for the clues of its Mayan past. Keeping in the theme you’ll stay at the excellent Posada del Angel.

Jump aboard your transfer to Chichicastenango, a fascinating snap shot of ancient roots, where you can see Mayan rituals performed in a Catholic church. Then it’s off to Panajachel to step aboard your boat across Lake Atitlan, renowned for its spectacular colours, beauty and abundance of Mayan villages. Jet across its waters in the shadows of volcanoes and lush greenery, before setting foot in picturesque villages, where you can get the lowdown on ancient Mayan cultures. For complete peace you’ll stay at Laguna Lodge.

Head onwards toward the frontier towns that will take you back to the border of Mexico before hitting the breathtaking San Cristobal de las Casas. Stay at the beautiful Posada Real de Chiapas. Our guides will take you on a tour of this pretty colonial town as well as taking you to the indigenous villages in the Chiapas highlands to meet the people who descend from the ancient Mayas.

You’ll head next towards the beautiful Agua Azul waterfalls and stay at the wonderful Quinta Cha Nab Nal before visiting the ruins of Palenque lost among dense jungle. Arrive in Campeche and your hotel the Hacienda Uayamon. The next morning you’ll explore the ancient site of Uxmal with a private guide before arriving at Hacienda Xcanatun in Merida. You’ll have free time to explore this fascinating city.

beach bliss

To end the holiday with a a little relaxation you’ll spend a few days at the beautiful Escencia hotel set on the beachfront of the Riviera Maya. On the way you’ll take a stop en route to visit one of the seven wonders of the world, Chichen-Itza before arriving at your beach break destination. Enjoy the many activities on offer from swimming with whale sharks to sun bathing on secluded beaches. Arrive home feeling refreshed and renewed.
